Sculpture Exhibition at Uptown Store

Mr. Matsuzaki sculpts statues of little Buddhas from stone.
Through a series of happy coincidences it was decided that Mr. Matsuzaki would exhibit his works at our uptown shop, September 6th thru15th.

“o Jizo san” are stone statues in human form whose roots are found in Buddhism. Nowadays, however, the statues have very little to do with religion, and people regardless of background will stop and put their hands together.  Similar to the way we in the West throw coins in a fountain or blow out candles on a birthday cake. You can find “o Jizo san” on the side of the road throughout Japan.

Departing from the traditional “o Jizo san”, Mr. Matsuzaki’s “o Jizo san” radiate a joyful and warm expression.  Mr. Matsuzaki’s idea for his “o Jizo san” is to represent a “charm” or talisman.  In fact we feel safe as though we are protected when we view his creations.
Mr. Matsuzaki explains:
“When viewing my work, the feelings of that day are projected.
If viewed with a calm, tranquil feeling, the “o Jizo san” will appear calm and tranquil.
If viewed with feelings of anger, “o Jizo san” will appear angry.
Typically, a “charm” is to protect us from misfortune.  However, I would like my
“o Jizo san” to also protect our everyday thoughts and feelings.”

For a very short period of 10 days Mr. Matsuzaki’s “o Jizo san” will be exhibited along with our clothes. We would be pleased if you would come and experience the warm, soft world Mr. Matsuzaki has created from stone.

Lab blanket

We would like to share the theory of our orignal 45rpm blanket.

In patchwork fashion, the blanket is constructed from our last year's boiled wool fabric. Created with inspiration from Native American and Ivy League style, this is an orignal, hand made 45rpm treasure.

There were only four of these one-of-a kind blankets made, and only three still available. All have an orignal pattern, created specifically for each one.

Please come to see these beautiful, hand sewn, 45rpm blankets.

Prices range from $800 - $1,200.
